Universal Domestic Fridge Compressor Overload Protector – Up to 1/3 HP

The Universal Domestic Fridge Compressor Overload Protector is a thermal protection device suitable for selected single-phase domestic refrigeration compressors rated up to approximately 1/3 HP. It helps protect the compressor motor against excessive current, overheating and stalled-rotor conditions.

The overload is installed as part of the compressor starting circuit. If the compressor draws excessive current or becomes too hot, the protector opens the electrical circuit and switches the compressor off. Once it cools sufficiently, it normally resets and allows the compressor to attempt restarting.

Important Diagnostic Note

A compressor that hums, overheats or repeatedly trips the overload does not automatically have a faulty overload protector. The compressor windings, start relay, PTC device, capacitor, supply voltage, wiring and refrigeration-system pressures must also be checked.

A mechanically seized or electrically damaged compressor may immediately trip the replacement overload. Test the compressor winding resistance, insulation to earth and starting current before installing a new protector.

This product is the compressor overload protector only unless specifically stated otherwise. The start relay, PTC device, capacitor, terminal cover, wiring and mounting hardware are not included.

Important Fitment Note

This is a universal-style overload protector and is not suitable for every compressor. Do not select the overload using compressor horsepower or physical appearance alone.

Before ordering, confirm the compressor voltage, rated running current, locked-rotor current, original overload rating, terminal arrangement and mounting configuration.

An incorrectly rated overload may trip unnecessarily or fail to provide adequate compressor protection. Compare the replacement with the original component and compressor data label before installation.

Never bypass the compressor overload protector. Disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply before testing or replacing any compressor starting component.
