Universal Commercial Compressor Relay & Overload Assembly

The Universal Commercial Compressor Relay and Overload Assembly is an electromechanical starting and protection device suitable for selected single-phase commercial refrigeration compressors. It is commonly used on small commercial hermetic compressors, including certain 3/8 HP compressor applications, where the electrical specifications and terminal arrangement match.

The relay temporarily energises the compressor start winding during startup and disconnects it once the motor reaches operating speed. The integrated thermal overload helps protect the compressor against excessive current, overheating and stalled-rotor conditions.

Important Diagnostic Note

A compressor that hums or trips the overload does not automatically have a faulty relay. The compressor windings, supply voltage, start capacitor, run capacitor, wiring, terminal connections and refrigeration-system pressures must also be checked.

A mechanically seized or electrically damaged compressor can immediately overload or damage a replacement relay assembly. Test the compressor winding resistance, insulation to earth and starting current before installation.
