Universal 3-Pin Domestic Fridge Compressor Start Relay – Up to 1/3 HP
The Universal 3-Pin Domestic Fridge Compressor Start Relay is a replacement starting device suitable for selected single-phase domestic refrigeration compressors rated up to approximately 1/3 HP. It temporarily energises the compressor start winding to help the motor begin operating.
Once the compressor reaches operating speed, the relay disconnects the start winding and allows the compressor to continue running through its normal run circuit. It is suitable for replacing an original relay that has become burnt, damaged, intermittent or unable to start the compressor correctly.
Product Features
- Part type: Domestic refrigeration compressor start relay
- Terminal configuration: 3 pin
- Generic aftermarket replacement component
- Suitable for selected single-phase hermetic compressors
- Suitable for compatible compressors rated up to approximately 1/3 HP
- Temporarily energises the compressor start winding
- Disconnects the start winding after successful startup
- Designed for use with a compatible separate overload protector
- Replacement for burnt, damaged or unreliable compressor relays
Common Applications
- Domestic refrigerators
- Fridge-freezers
- Bar fridges
- Chest freezers
- Upright freezers
- Water coolers
- Small beverage coolers
- Selected hermetic compressors up to 1/3 HP
Common Symptoms This Part May Fix
- Compressor humming but not starting
- Compressor starting intermittently
- Compressor requiring several attempts to start
- Overload protector clicking repeatedly
- Start winding not being energised correctly
- Relay buzzing or chattering during startup
- Burnt or heat-damaged relay contacts
- Loose or damaged compressor-terminal connection
- Compressor starting only after the appliance has been switched off and restarted
Important Diagnostic Note
A compressor that hums or repeatedly trips the overload does not automatically have a faulty start relay. The compressor windings, thermal overload, capacitor where fitted, supply voltage, wiring and refrigeration-system pressures must also be inspected and tested.
A mechanically seized or electrically damaged compressor may immediately damage the replacement relay. Test the compressor winding resistance, insulation to earth and starting current before installation.
Package Note
This product is the 3-pin compressor start relay only unless specifically stated otherwise. The thermal overload protector, capacitor, terminal cover, wiring and mounting hardware are not included.
Important Fitment Note
This is a universal-style start relay and is not suitable for every compressor. Do not select the relay using compressor horsepower or physical appearance alone.
Before ordering, confirm the compressor voltage, rated current, locked-rotor current, winding arrangement, relay characteristics, 3-pin terminal layout and mounting configuration.
Compare the relay carefully with the original component. A similar-looking relay may have a different current range or internal switching configuration.
The relay must be used with the correctly rated thermal overload protector. Incorrect selection or wiring may prevent the compressor from starting or damage the compressor windings.
Disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply before testing or replacing compressor starting components.
